Governor Alfredo Cornejo announced the submission of five key bills aimed at deepening the development of mining activity in Mendoza, with the goal of providing legal certainty, predictability, and sustainability for investments. The decision comes after the resounding support obtained in the midterm elections, which consolidated his leadership and the social validation of the economic direction promoted by his administration.
During the opening of the Argentina Mining Cuyo fair, one of the country's most important mining events, Cornejo emphasized that Mendoza "is consolidating a path of modern, controlled, and sustainable mining," in line with the national government's vision under Javier Milei to promote strategic sectors that strengthen production and genuine employment.
The five initiatives to strengthen Mendoza's mining sector
The bills submitted by the provincial Executive seek to accelerate the transition toward a more diversified and efficient productive matrix. Among them, the following stand out:
- Environmental Impact Statement for the PSJ Cobre Mendocino project, which is key for copper development, an essential mineral in the energy transition.
- Mining Royalties Law, which will establish a transparent framework for the distribution of economic benefits.
- Creation of the Environmental Compensation Fund, aimed at ensuring that mining is compatible with ecosystem preservation.
- Environmental Impact Statement for 27 new exploration projects of MDMO II.
- Initiation of the environmental impact assessment for 71 projects of MDMO III, marking a qualitative leap in provincial mining planning.
With this set of measures, Cornejo seeks to turn Mendoza into a mining benchmark, capable of attracting national and international investments and generating quality employment in the sector.
