D.C. police thank Trump for restoring order: there have already been 100 arrests
The head of the police department admitted today that crime is out of control in the capital and described the federal intervention as something positive
Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith praised the federal assistance her department has recently received this Wednesday after President Trump ordered intervention in the city to combat crime and homelessness.
According to information provided by Fox News, more than 100 people have been arrested in Washington D.C. since Trump announced on Monday that he was assuming federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Although she is affiliated with the Democratic Party, Smith had no choice but to admit that the federal help is proving beneficial because her officers have been overwhelmed by the amount of crime in the city. A recent report revealed that the homicide rate in the U.S. capital is the fourth highest in the country.

The consequences of Democratic policies.
"Remember, we're talking about 500 additional people in the District of Columbia," Smith told a local television network. "As you know, we've talked about the fact that we have fewer officers, so this reinforced presence is clearly going to have a positive impact for us."
Currently, the capital's police force has about 3,150 officers. This number has been in steady decline after the department suffered a major loss of personnel. The reason? The push by the left and Democratic authorities since 2020 for the "defund the police" movement.
Since federal forces reinforced control of the city, 43 people have already been detained just on Tuesday. Authorities reported that more than 1,450 agents are participating in this operation to restore order, including 750 MPD officers.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a staunch Democrat who initially opposed the federal intervention, also said that the assistance is welcome as they try to recruit more officers. According to the mayor, a total of 3,800 officers are needed to cover the district's security.
"We need to focus a lot on how we recruit and retain officers. How we ensure that our policies encourage accountability for those who use weapons in our city, and that those things combined make our city safe," Bowser admitted.
The president of the police union also supported Trump's decision, admitting that crime in the capital is out of control. "We support the president in recognizing that Washington D.C. can't continue on this trajectory. Crime is out of control and our officers are overwhelmed," declared Gregg Pemberton.
