On Tuesday afternoon, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, described the recent testimony of a Democratic whistleblower as a "bomb," alleging that Democratic Senator Adam Schiff approved the leak of classified information with the aim of discrediting President Donald Trump during the investigation into the alleged collusion with Russia, known as "Russiagate."
During a press conference, Leavitt stated: "This is obviously a bomb report from a whistleblower." I hope more people in this room cover it as such."
She added that Kash Patel, FBI director appointed by Trump, declassified an internal FBI document (form 302) revealing that the whistleblower, an intelligence officer with more than a decade working with Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, warned in 2017 that Schiff had approved the leak of classified information in order to frame Trump.

According to the document, Schiff allegedly stated in a meeting that damaging information about Trump would be leaked that would be used to achieve his formal indictment. The whistleblower expressed that this would be illegal, but supposedly was reassured by others present, who assured that they wouldn't be discovered.
Schiff, who represented California in the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate in 2024, has been a constant critic of Trump, even leading the ridiculous impeachment trial against him in 2020. His involvement in the Russiagate narrative has been reiterated by Trump and his allies as an example of the politicization of intelligence.
Leavitt cited recent statements from Kash Patel: "For years, certain officials used their positions to selectively leak classified information and shape political narratives. All with one goal: to politicize intelligence and the judicial system for partisan gain."
She added that the FBI, in coordination with the Department of Justice and Congress, now will seek to clarify the possible misuse of institutional power.
