After the significant budget increase, above inflation, announced by the Government of Javier Milei for 2026, the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) warned on Tuesday that the Budget bill “deepens the financial crisis” affecting the Argentine university system.
According to the statement released by the institution, the allocations assigned by the Executive Branch "consolidate the current cut," deepen the salary deterioration of faculty members, and keep operating expenses at "critical levels," which is completely false.
In the document issued after the Government's announcement, UBA stated that the official initiative keeps professors' salaries “below the poverty line” and doesn't provide for increases in allocations to cover "essential expenses."

Despite the false narrative of the radical authorities of the University, the reality is that Milei's Government approved 100% of the increases requested by UBA itself to cover operating expenses.
Finally, the institution once again called for the bankruptcy of the State and the destruction of the economy by demanding that "Congress ratify the University Financing Law to guarantee the operation of public universities in 2026."
Javier Milei's announcements
This Monday night, President Javier Milei announced on national television budget increases in sensitive areas such as health, pensions, education, and disability. He also asked governors to support his reforms, since these will turn Argentina into "one of the world's leading powers" in the coming decades.

The libertarian president reaffirmed the economic direction of his administration, with a firm defense of zero deficit, although he ordered a reallocation of funds that benefits the aforementioned sectors.
The bill, which must now be debated in both Chambers of Congress, ensures fiscal balance and prohibits the Treasury from financing itself through the Central Bank. At the same time, it provides for real increases: 5% in pensions, 17% in health, 8% in education, and 5% in disability pensions.
Additionally, Milei's Government announced that it will allocate an additional 4.8 trillion pesos (4.8 trillion pesos) to national universities. With these measures, the national administration plans to allocate nearly 85% of the 2026 Budget to social spending.
