The Age of Empires saga is still alive: World's Edge is working on a new title that will use Unreal Engine 5. This information comes from a job posting published by the studio responsible for overseeing the franchise.
The announcement is seeking a Principal Unreal Engineer with full development experience in Unreal and the ability to lead teams. This indicates a large-scale project and possibly the fifth main installment of the saga.

A technical leap with Unreal Engine 5
The use of Unreal Engine 5 marks a significant technical shift compared to previous installments. More detailed graphics and smoother animations are expected, taking advantage of the power of the new generation of consoles and PCs.
The LinkedIn page of a principal engineer at World's Edge mentions that they are working on "unannounced titles" with this engine.
The saga's context
After the release of Age of Empires IV in 2021, developed by Relic Entertainment, a continuation was expected. The fourth installment marked a new direction for the saga, and now the World's Edge team is responsible for bringing it to the next generation.

Upcoming expansion: Dynasties of the East
Before the possible fifth installment, the studio is preparing the Dynasties of the East expansion for Age of Empires IV. It will be released on November 4, coinciding with its debut on PlayStation 5.
The expansion will include four Eastern civilizations—Golden Horde, Macedonian Dynasty, Daimyo Sengoku, and Tughlaq Dynasty—eight new maps, six biomes, and a single-player roguelite mode called The Crucible.
