It has already been a year since Ángel Di María left the Argentina National Team. After the triumph in the 2024 Copa América against Colombia, Fideo fully focused on club football, first at Benfica and now at Rosario Central. Beyond the nostalgia it might generate, he made it clear that his time with the Albiceleste is already over.
"I don't miss it. I felt it was the right time and many will agree with me: these guys are ready to continue on their own. A new generation is coming: Nico Paz, Garnacho, Thiago. They deserve to have matches. It makes me extremely happy," he explained in an interview with TyC Sports.
Meanwhile, he also spoke about Lionel Messi's future, one of his longest-standing teammates in the national team. The winger is confident that there is still a road ahead: "Leo hasn't retired yet. It will be his last Qualifiers, but he still has a World Cup ahead and will surely have another match afterwards."

He also clarified his absence from the match against Venezuela: "For me, it's not a farewell. That's why I didn't go. I spoke with him and I'm happy that he still has time left."
He also praised Lionel Scaloni: "We should give him a lifetime contract. Everything he achieved, what he's doing with the National Team, the players he's bringing up... Like Thiago Almada from MLS... Today he's a starter, he stands out in every match... It's not just what he achieved, but what he's doing with the younger players, what he's doing with the U-20. It's something very special, worthy of recognition."
