El Diablito Echeverri could leave Manchester City: who are the interested parties

While recovering from an ankle injury, the young player is considering possible destinations to gain experience

The start of the Club World Cup was an ideal showcase for Claudio Echeverri. He scored a spectacular goal against Al Ain in the group stage and received praise from all corners of the world, including Pep Guardiola. However, what seemed like a breakthrough ended abruptly, because in that same match he suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him for the rest of the tournament.

A month after that episode, and while the former River player is making progress in his recovery, rumors about a possible departure from Manchester City are growing. Echeverri knows that it will be difficult to secure a leading role in the next semester, not only because of his physical condition but also due to the abundance of stars in the City squad.

Two interested parties in Europe

According to European media reports in recent hours, two teams are reportedly interested in signing him on loan:  Girona and Roma.

In the case of the Spanish side, which is enjoying a great run in LaLiga, the deal would be swift and straightforward, since they belong to the same structure (City Group), so he would be a good attacking reinforcement at a low or even no cost.

Meanwhile, La Loba is looking to strengthen its attack and find an ideal partner for Paulo Dybala. According to La Repubblica,  the Italian side's first option is Antonio Nusa, but Leipzig is demanding 35 million euros, a figure that complicates the negotiation.

Faced with this, Echeverri emerges as a more accessible alternative since they would only need to pay a loan fee, and talks have reportedly already begun.

His numbers at City

Since his arrival in January of this year, Echeverri has played just 64 official minutes across three competitions (Premier League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup), in which he scored a single goal.

With such limited participation and an ongoing recovery, everything suggests that a loan could be key for him to gain playing time and continuity, at a crucial moment for his professional development.
