Disney experiences a historic failure following the release of 'Black Snow White'

Once again, the film company chose to appeal to progressivism in its movies and failed spectacularly

The new version of Disney's "Snow White," a live-action remake, has been a resounding failure both at the box office and in reviews, becoming one of the worst performances in the studio's history.

Despite having a budget of 240 million dollars, the film only grossed 3.5 million dollars in its Thursday previews, and it is projected to make between 45 and 55 million dollars in its opening weekend.

This figure is considerably lower than other recent Disney remakes, such as The Little Mermaid (2023), which earned 95 million dollars in its opening, and Dumbo (2019), which grossed 45 million dollars, albeit with a lower budget of 170 million dollars.

The public reception has been overwhelmingly negative, and the film has been harshly criticized for its "woke" messages and the comments of the lead actress, the leftist Rachel Zegler, as well as the absence of the iconic song "Someday My Prince Will Come."

Fans have expressed their discontent on social media, accusing Disney of trying to "brainwash" children with a "politically correct" and forced narrative.

The negative comments have mainly focused on the transformation of Snow White, who instead of being a figure of innocence, now represents a narrative of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) that, according to critics, promotes "darkness and evil."

The film's failure has been exacerbated by the controversies surrounding the main actors. Rachel Zegler has been heavily criticized both for her performance and her comments before the release.

During an interview, Zegler said that the 1937 Snow White film was "dated" and criticized the story's focus on the love between a young woman and a man who pursues her.

Zegler also mentioned that she was afraid of the original film as a child, which displeased many Disney followers. Additionally, Snow White's origin was altered in this remake; instead of being "white as snow", the princess is named due to a snowstorm she survived in her childhood.

Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, has had strong disagreements with the producers and Zegler herself over their political opinions on the Gaza conflict, as Gadot is Israeli and has been a fervent supporter of Israel, while Zegler has expressed support for Palestinian terrorism. These tensions between the actors have further fueled the controversy surrounding the film.

One of the most criticized changes in the remake was the modification of the story's "dwarfs". In an attempt to be more inclusive, Disney chose to replace the dwarfs with computer-caused "magical creatures", which was perceived as a way to avoid offering job opportunities to people with dwarfism.

This decision was also criticized by actors like Peter Dinklage, who pointed out Disney's hypocrisy in wanting to be progressive in one aspect while perpetuating a stereotype in another. Dinklage suggested that Disney should have made a deeper reform in the story instead of trying to make it more "politically correct" at the expense of authenticity.

The bad reviews are not limited to fans and social media controversy. Critics have also been relentless. The film has received only a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 2.4/10 on IMDb.

Critics like Brian Viner from Daily Mail rated the film with two stars, saying that "Disney's intentions not to offend anyone have managed to offend everyone."

In his opinion, the forced modifications, such as the removal of the dwarfs and the introduction of "magical creatures," have turned the film into an incoherent and superficial product.

Other critics, like those from The Times of London, called the film a "low point for cultural destruction", while The Guardian labeled it "unnecessary" and accused it of being a money-making machine through merchandising.

In response to the criticism, Disney tried to ease the situation by scaling down the premieres instead of holding a traditional red carpet. The European premiere was held in a remote castle in Segovia, Spain, and press events were canceled, which some interpreted as an attempt to minimize the visibility of the more controversial actors.

Additionally, in recent days it was confirmed that the progressive actress playing "Snow White" was cast for the well-known musical "Evita" where she will portray the infamous Eva Perón, despite the fact that the Argentine political figure was truly "white as snow."
