The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he will visit Venezuela, although he did not specify the date of that trip, during a press conference at the White House.
"I will visit Venezuela", he said, after he was asked by a journalist whether he would travel to the South American country. He made these statements before he headed to a military base in North Carolina, where he paid tribute to the special forces that took part in the operation that ended with the capture of the former narco-terrorist dictator Nicolás Maduro in January.
Trump's intention to travel to Venezuela comes within an expanding framework of cooperation between Washington and the interim regime headed by Delcy Rodríguez, after the arrest of Maduro, who was transferred to the United States to face federal drug trafficking charges.
Rodríguez, who assumed office as interim President of Venezuela, adopted a more conciliatory tone toward Washington. The Venezuelan regime confirmed its willingness to collaborate with the United States and move forward on an agenda of bilateral cooperation, especially in the energy sector, and whose ultimate goal is the political transition and the end of Chavismo.
