After a meeting in Caracas with Chris Wright, United States Secretary of Energy, Delcy Rodríguez stated that 'at some point' she will travel to Washington
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, confirmed that she is considering traveling to the United States after holding a private meeting at Miraflores Palace with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
"At some point, I imagine," Rodríguez replied when she was asked by journalists about the possibility of a visit to Washington, although she clarified that her current schedule in the country is a priority.
The meeting took place in a context of diplomatic and energy reconfiguration between Caracas and Washington, after Nicolás Maduro was captured last January following the military operation that marked a turning point in the Venezuelan crisis.
"Long-term" energy partnership
After the meeting, Rodríguez announced the establishment of a "long-term productive partnership" in the energy sector, which will cover projects related to:
Oil
Natural gas
Mining
Electric power

According to her explanation, the objective is for the energy agenda to become the driving force of the bilateral relationship and to be beneficial and complementary for both countries.
Meanwhile, Chris Wright conveyed a direct message from President Donald Trump and stated that the U.S. administration is "passionately committed" to transforming the relationship with Venezuela within a broader vision of strengthening the American continent.
"We want to free Venezuela's economy," Wright stated, who maintained that an increase in oil, gas, and electricity production could improve employment, wages, and opportunities for the population.
Regulatory changes and signals to the market
The visit by the U.S. official took place two weeks after the Venezuelan Parliament approved a legal reform that opens the oil sector to foreign investment.
In addition, the U.S. Department of the Treasury recently relaxed restrictions so that U.S. companies can operate in Venezuela, facilitating new investments in the energy sector.

Rodríguez emphasized that the technical delegations of both countries have already begun working on the operational details in order to move forward "as quickly as possible" with the agreed projects.
A historic bond that seeks to be reactivated
The Venezuelan leader recalled that the United States and Venezuela have maintained energy relations for more than a century and a half, although marked by political tensions.
"I am sure that through diplomacy we are going to overcome our differences," she stated.
Wright's trip would be the first in a series of contacts that could consolidate a new stage in the bilateral relationship, with energy as the central axis. In that context, a possible trip by Rodríguez to Washington would mark a significant political gesture within the normalization process.
