A pocos meses del inicio del Mundial 2026, el conflicto en Medio Oriente volvió a impactar en el panorama del torneo. En ese contexto, el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, desaconsejó públicamente la participación de la selección de Irán por motivos de seguridad.

El mandatario se expresó a través de un mensaje publicado en su red social Truth Social, donde hizo referencia a la situación política que atraviesa el país asiático. "La selección nacional de fútbol de Irán es bienvenida al Mundial, pero realmente no creo que sea apropiado que estén allí, por su propia vida y seguridad. Gracias por su atención a este asunto", escribió Trump en su publicación.
