Despite having had a result that, in his own words, was "disappointing" at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, due to the collision of Franco Colapinto with his teammate Pierre Gasly, Alpine decided to highlight through a summary report the positive points from the last weekend.
First of all, the French team highlighted the performance shown in the lead-up to the race, with a growing performance in free practices and a solid result in the qualifying of both drivers, thus achieving the third double entry of the team among the top ten so far this season and a substantial improvement compared to last season.
Already in the race on Saturday, the French team celebrated the "excellent start" that both of their drivers had and highlighted the work of their mechanics during the pit stops after Alex Albon's crash, as both were among the fastest in the competition.
Despite this great start, Colapinto's crash changed the story. "Unfortunately, at the restart of the race on lap 36, Franco made a mistake and collided with Pierre, who spun and hit Norris when taking the first corner. Franco was able to return to the pits, but the damage to his car prevented him from continuing", they explained.
"In his 31 participations with Alpine (not counting the non-participation in Silverstone last year), this was Franco's first retirement with the team. It was also our first double retirement in 74 races, since Hungary 2023", they noted.
Despite that outcome, Alpine considered that the performance shown during the weekend was a positive sign. "Despite the disappointing finish, the pace and performance shown during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix were very encouraging, particularly the team's third double participation in Q3 of the season and the progress made compared to last year", they concluded.
When will Colapinto race again
After his unfortunate participation in Azerbaijan, the Argentine will seek to recover next weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Due to the current geopolitical tension in the Middle East, Formula 1 decided that instead of being held at the Sakhir circuit, the action will move to the Sepang circuit, Malaysia, although the competition will retain its original name due to the commercial agreements that the category has with the Bahraini government. Activities will kick off on Friday, October 2 with the first free practices and will conclude on Sunday, October 4 with the main race.
