The company Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) announced an investment of 400 million dollars aimed at the construction of a sunflower and soybean processing plant in Bahía Blanca, which will be one of the largest sunflower seed milling facilities in the world.
The decision was communicated by the company's CEO, Michael Gelchie, through a letter sent to the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo, following a meeting held in March in New York, during the successful Argentina Week event organized by the Government of Javier Milei.
“First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the time and attention you generously dedicated to our discussions during our meeting in New York last March,” Gelchie expressed at the beginning of the letter, where he also highlighted the exchange about the country's economic outlook.

In this regard, the executive confirmed: “As a follow-up to that conversation, I am writing today to share that our company has decided to move forward with the construction of a new sunflower and soybean processing plant in Bahia Blanca.”
He specified that the future facility “will be one of the largest sunflower seed milling plants in the world” and will represent “one of the most significant investments in the Argentine agro-industrial sector in the last decade.”
The company emphasized that the project aims to strengthen the country's industrial capacity. “The investment will be crucial to increase the processing capacity of oilseeds, thus improving the competitiveness of the Argentine agro-industrial sector and generating greater exports with added value,” Gelchie indicated.
Additionally, a direct impact on the regional economy is expected. “We believe it will also significantly contribute to local economic development, job creation, and the ongoing modernization of the country's agro-industrial infrastructure,” stated the CEO of LDC.

In his message, the executive also highlighted Argentina's strategic role within the company's global structure. “Argentina has long been, and continues to be today, a strategic market for several of Louis Dreyfus Company's business lines,” he affirmed, mentioning areas such as grains, oilseeds, cotton, and derivatives.
Gelchie justified the investment decision not only based on the country's structural conditions but also on the successful program of Milei's Government. “Our investment decision is based on these solid fundamentals, but also on our recognition of the significant macroeconomic progress achieved by the national government in recent months,” he assured.
Finally, the executive projected the long-term impact of the disbursement: “We are therefore confident that this project will further strengthen Argentina's position as a leading global supplier of agricultural products.”
He also announced that the official announcement would be made during the same day and expressed his intention to hold another meeting with Caputo in July to discuss details of the initiative.
