Driver's license and VTV: all the changes in the traffic law
The Government implemented key changes in the driver's license and the VTV, streamlining procedures and modernizing the law
The Government of Javier Milei presented a significant reform to the Traffic Law through decree 196.
This introduces key modifications in the procedures to obtain the driver's license and the Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV).

Changes in the Driver's License
One of the main modifications is that the driver's license will now be digital and valid throughout the Argentine territory. This change is implemented through the Mi Argentina application, making the physical version of the card optional. Additionally, the renewal of the license can also be done remotely, facilitating the process.
Drivers will be able to submit the procedures online. This includes uploading the psychophysical fitness certificates issued by professionals registered with the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV). Although many of the procedures can be done online, it will still be necessary to attend the License Issuing Center to take the exams.
Licenses for Professional Drivers
Additionally, the National Interjurisdictional Transport License (LiNTI), which was intended for professional drivers, is eliminated. This simplifies the procedures and unifies the licenses for general cargo and passenger transporters.

Validity and Renewal: How Does Age Affect?
The changes also affect the validity of driver's licenses according to the driver's age:
- Under 21 years old: License valid for five years.
- Drivers between 21 and 65 years old: License valid for five years for all categories.
- Over 65 years old: They must renew the license every three years, and from 70 years old, the renewal will be annual.
The Importance of Renewal with Psychophysical Exams
The license renewal will be linked to a psychophysical exam that will be adapted to the driver's age. Every five years for those under 65, every three for those over 65, and annually from 70 years old.

What Changes with the VTV?
Regarding the Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV), it can now be carried out in any workshop or dealership that meets the requirements. This way, the control points are made more flexible, facilitating access for drivers.
Inspections for New and Old Cars
Additionally, the deadlines for the VTV are extended: new cars will need to do it only after five years. Vehicles less than 10 years old must undergo inspection every two years. Those exceeding that age must do it annually.
Smart Tolls
The Government also advanced in the implementation of smart tolls on national routes. This system aims to optimize traffic and eliminate traditional booths. The goal is to have 50% of national routes with barrier-free or automatic tolls by 2027.

The implementation of the TelePASE system will be key to achieving smoother traffic. It is expected that by December 2025, all national routes will have this technology.
