The changes announced by the government in automotive procedures: VTV, licenses, and more

The Government made changes to the requirements for traveling in the country.

The Government announced changes in various automotive procedures that affect the driver's license, the Vehicle Technical Inspection (VTV), and other requirements for driving in the country. Among the most important modifications is the elimination of the National Interjurisdictional Transport License and the relaxation of VTV deadlines.

Elimination of the National Interjurisdictional Transport License

Manuel Adorni announced that the National Interjurisdictional Transport License, which was mandatory until now, will be eliminated.

From now on, each jurisdiction will be responsible for issuing the professional licenses for categories C, D, and E. Additionally, public and private providers registered with Vialidad will be authorized to offer courses and exams.

This will allow significant cost reductions:

  • The application process, which currently costs $500,000, will be eliminated.
  • The renewal, which cost $250,000, will also be eliminated.
  • Drivers will not lose their license when changing their address.

New deadlines for the Vehicle Technical Inspection (VTV)

The Government also modified the timelines for conducting the VTV, aiming to reduce costs and streamline procedures.

  • 0 km vehicles must undergo their first VTV 5 years after registration.
  • Non-private use vehicles must do it 2 years after registration.
  • Vehicles older than 10 years must renew it every 2 years if they are for private use.

Additionally, inspections can be conducted at any authorized workshop or dealership, without the need to go to official centers.
