Official data only considers reported cases, which, according to estimates, account for just 6% of the total
According to the latest official reports from the Ministry of the Interior of France, the country is experiencing an alarming security crisis due to massive illegal immigration.
During 2024, 40,300 victims of rape or attempted rape were recorded, which is equivalent to an average of 110 incidents per day. This figure represents a 7% increase compared to 2023 and confirms the growing trend in reports of sexual assaults, which affected a total of 122,600 people last year.
A particularly concerning aspect is that 58% of the victims of this type of violence are minors, which highlights the particular vulnerability of this segment of the population. In addition, 89% of rape victims are women and, in 75% of cases, the attacks occur outside the family circle, according to records from the Ministerial Statistical Service for Internal Security (SSMSI).
Despite these figures, specialists emphasize that official data only include reported cases, which make up just 6% of the total, according to the 2022 Victimization and Security Survey (VRS) by INSEE. This indicates that the real number of cases could be much higher, aggravated by the reluctance of numerous victims to seek justice due to social stigma or lack of trust in institutions.
The French government has committed to redoubling efforts to address this issue through awareness campaigns and strengthening judicial resources. However, various sectors of civil society are demanding the adoption of stronger measures that guarantee security and protect the most vulnerable groups, particularly minors.
