Racing is going through one of its most delicate moments in recent times, and the defeat against Huracán only deepened its fall. The 2-1 at the Palacio Ducó left the Academy sinking at the bottom of its zone, with only five points after nine matches, and once again brought the continuity of Juan Pablo Vojvoda into the spotlight.
After the match, the coach held a press conference where he was repeatedly asked about his future. Far from showing intentions to step aside, Vojvoda defended the process he leads and assured that he does not plan to abandon the team despite the lack of results.
"What do you want? For me to abandon my players? That’s not a decision I feel good about", expressed the head coach, who also acknowledged the difficult moment the team is going through. In that vein, he stated: "Just because I’m not getting results doesn’t mean I’m going to abandon the process. Leave? I don’t feel those values".
The coach also maintained that the support of his players is one of the arguments that leads him to continue at the helm of the team. "If they are at Racing, they were chosen to wear this shirt. We are last, that hurts us all. I trust my players", he stated.
Vojvoda also made a strong self-criticism and placed himself as the main responsible for the current state of the Academy. "I am the main responsible for that", he assured. And, in response to the criticism calling for his departure, he added: "If everyone says ‘leave, leave, leave’, that ‘you’re not helping’, that ‘leave because you’re useless’, I don’t feel that I’m useless. I feel that I’m not winning matches and that hurts, but I don’t feel like I’m a coach who is useless".
For the coach, Racing's main need is to achieve a victory that allows them to regain confidence. When asked about what the team needs to do to start changing its course, he responded emphatically: "Win a match". He explained that this result could help relieve a situation he considers extreme.
Regarding the performance against the Globo, Vojvoda assured that he did not see a team that gave up and highlighted the attitude of his players despite the adverse result. The coach considered that the squad must sustain itself with "head, will, strength", maintain unity, and continue "absorbing the criticism".
The defeat against Huracán was Racing's sixth in the first nine rounds of the Clausura. The Avellaneda team began the second half of the year with renewed expectations, but its performance has declined, and it now occupies the last place in its zone, in a scenario that also raises concerns ahead of the Copa Argentina.
In fact, Vojvoda pointed to the match against Boca on September 27 as one of the important commitments ahead. Meanwhile, Racing will need to try to react in the championship when they host Sarmiento on Friday the 18th.
