Chelsea was sanctioned by the English Football Association (FA) due to a series of financial irregularities recorded during the period when Roman Abramovich was the owner of the institution. The entity will face a fine of 10 million pounds, equivalent to about 11.5 million euros, while a sporting sanction that could prevent it from signing players during two transfer windows has been suspended.
The investigated infractions occurred between 2011 and 2018 and are related to payments that were not properly reported to the authorities. According to the resolution, the operations involved companies linked to the club's ownership and were aimed at agents, footballers, and other entities.
The FA reported that Chelsea acknowledged the 74 charges included in the investigation. The first independent commission that analyzed the case determined a financial sanction of 10 million pounds and a deduction of ten points in the competition.
