Esteban Mirol targeted Marixa Balli after the artist defended the textile sector following the statements by the Economy Minister, Luis Caputo. The journalist accused her of playing the victim and of having been part of a system that harmed consumers for years.
The criticism became known through messages that Mirol sent to Ángel de Brito, where he went after Balli as a businesswoman linked to the clothing sector.

Mirol's anger and an unfiltered accusation
Visibly upset, Mirol questioned the artist's discourse and focused on the historical practices of the textile business. He mentioned areas such as Flores and La Salada, where Balli had clothing stores.
"What nerve talking about the clothing business", the journalist fired, who claimed to know the sector because of his work in consumer protection.
"Her wardrobe must smell like Miami"
One of the strongest parts of his statement was when he used irony about shopping abroad. "Do an interview at her house and have her show her wardrobe. It must smell like a duty-free shop and Miami", he shot.

Along those lines, he maintained that those who can travel buy clothes abroad and that today consumers have alternatives thanks to international platforms.
The allegation about the clothing circuit
Mirol went further and denounced precarious working conditions within the informal textile circuit. He claimed that many garments were produced under irregular conditions and then resold at inflated prices.

"All workers off the books, without paying taxes", he stated, and he questioned the fact that some business owners now present themselves as victims.
The final jab at Balli and the sector
The journalist stressed that the closure of businesses doesn't respond exclusively to current economic policies. "They don't close because of Caputo, they close because they're incompetent", he sentenced.
He also maintained that for years consumers, especially those with fewer resources, were mistreated with high prices and little transparency.

What Marixa Balli had said
Mirol's statements came after Marixa Balli expressed her anger over the Economy Minister's remarks. The artist considered that they were offensive to those who can't travel abroad.
In that context, she defended textile SMEs and demanded a tax reduction to sustain domestic industry.
