An incident that took place in the town of Bujalance, in Spain, almost turned into a tragedy after an act of extreme violence and sparked controversy on social media.
Eloísa and her husband, residents of the municipality, had gone out to enjoy their vacation without imagining that, upon returning, they would encounter a scene as unusual as it was concerning. A couple known in the town had illegally taken over their home: the couple became victims of a home invasion.
When they returned, they found some of their belongings thrown out on the street. At that moment, they were attacked with sticks, chains, and even chainsaws. Eloísa, eight weeks pregnant, received multiple blows that left her body covered in bruises. Meanwhile, her husband was also assaulted when he tried to protect her from the brutal beating.
Both recounted what happened during an interview on "El programa de Ana Rosa," from where they made an appeal to society to raise awareness about an episode that almost cost them their lives.
A few years ago, that same couple of squatters had already violently taken over the home of another neighbor in Bujalance. After reporting that case, Eloísa became a target for the strikers, who apparently planned revenge against her and her partner. Although the strikers have already been arrested, the couple still hasn't been able to return to their home.
With the journalists of the Spanish program visibly shocked, Eloísa's husband showed on camera the marks left by the violent assault: his abdomen was completely covered in bruises. Meanwhile, Eloísa, with visible injuries to one eye and to an arm, reported live the threats she received before the attack.
"They told me 'I'm going to kill your child'[...]If he hadn't stood in front of me, they would've killed me," she recounted with evident indignation and fear. Her partner added that it was at that moment, when he decided to intervene, that they were in the greatest danger. "If they'd taken 30 seconds longer, they would've killed us," said the assaulted woman.
