However, according to experts from the Rosario Board of Trade, wheat in Córdoba is showing good conditions heading into harvest.
There were days of high temperatures, followed by strong storms and an intense, persistent southern circulation that sowed fear of frost due to the sharp temperature drop.
But wheat emerged strengthened by the cold, and the core region keeps its yield potential above 40 qq/ha, with the possibility intact of seeing unprecedented yields in the harvesters.
How wheat is doing in different localities of Córdoba
"We dodged it, the cold didn't cause damage," say the engineers from Camilo Aldao.
El trigo soportó todo tipo de climas.
"I think it was positive, this cold will extend the grain filling period. Surely, the harvest will be pushed back until after November 20, and that's a very good sign."
They also highlight "that the grain filling is happening under these good heliophany conditions."
In Corral de Bustos, despite extreme rainfall of more than 130 mm, they estimate a yield between 40 and 70 qq/ha, with fields showing unexpected potential for the area: "they're comparable to the southeast of Buenos Aires province."
In Marcos Juárez, they report optimal grain filling, favored by good thermal amplitude, cool temperatures, and sufficient moisture reserves.
They estimate between 45 and 50 qq/ha, with fields that could reach unprecedented highs.
Record wheat in Córdoba
The wheat harvest in Córdoba would reach around 5,956,600 tons, representing a 64% increase compared to the previous season and 124% more than the historical period, between the 2007/2008 and 2024/2025 agricultural cycles.
The importance of fertilization to save wheat
Technicians in the region agree that nutrition will be the variable that makes the difference between fields: those who applied the right doses will see their potential consolidated, while "those who fell short on the dose will probably see their yield limited," they warn.
