A former San Lorenzo secretary confronted Moretti and called for his resignation.

Pablo García Lago personally sought out the president, demanded that he step down, and held him responsible for the current institutional crisis

The institutional crisis that San Lorenzo is experiencing shows no sign of abating, and this Monday saw an unprecedented chapter. Marcelo Moretti, under investigation by the courts for alleged fraudulent administration and after several months on leave, attempted to regain control of the club. To that end, he sent an email announcing his return and calling a Board of Directors meeting at 11.

The president arrived accompanied by a notary, who recorded the absence of the other board members. No member of the Board of Directors showed up, which exposed the internal rift. However, Pablo García Lago, a board member and former secretary of the institution, did come to the headquarters, seeking to "clarify some things" face to face with Moretti.

"I want to have a personal conversation with him, because he's causing very serious harm to San Lorenzo. I want him to repeat to my face the things he's been saying. I came alone because I knew there wouldn't be a quorum, and I have no problem facing whatever I have to face," García Lago told the press.

The board member went further and openly called for Moretti's resignation: "His cycle at San Lorenzo is over. It's up to him to step aside. Day-to-day life at the club is unsustainable. If seven or eight people come with me, I have no problem submitting my resignation as well. But he can't continue."

When asked about a possible scenario of a power vacuum, he clarified that the club's bylaws do not provide for early elections unless the power vacuum occurs six months before the end of the term. In that case, what would be appropriate is a transitional government appointed by the Assembly.

The tense confrontation

When García Lago tried to enter the headquarters, he found the doors locked. "They told me it was by order of the president, but Moretti is not president today. They can't clarify who gave that order. We're going to try to get in another way," he said angrily. Finally, after a few tense minutes, he was able to enter, although under the supervision of the club's security.

The board member recounted that he had a "heated argument" with Moretti, who arrived with two people as witnesses and never agreed to be alone. "I told him everything I had to say and asked for his resignation. San Lorenzo needs to regain calm, and with him in charge that's impossible," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the internal conflict at the club remains in a critical state. Moretti claims that he's back in office, although the rest of the Board of Directors considers him illegitimate, since, just like his leave, his definitive return should be approved. The saga in Boedo, far from being solved, adds more and more chapters of uncertainty every day.
