The Argentine highlighted the Italian's influence on his growth in F1, spoke about his relationship with Pierre Gasly, and stated that he is preparing for when Alpine can compete at the top

Despite the criticism over Alpine's current struggles and its controversial decisions, Franco Colapinto placed all his trust in Flavio Briatore, the Italian businessman who opened the door to the French team for him, first as a reserve driver and then as a main driver in Formula 1.

"I believe in Flavio Briatore. He's going to take Alpine back to the top. I learned a lot from him and I'm very grateful to him. He made me a much stronger person psychologically," said the Argentine driver on the Beyond The Grid podcast.

Although he acknowledged that Briatore is often very demanding and doesn't always have the best manners, Colapinto appreciated that under his leadership his career took a big leap and that every weekend he manages to gain experience. Additionally, the Argentine stated that the difficult start to the season toughened him up and prepared him better for what's coming, which he considers positive looking ahead to the future.

Regarding his future in F1, the Buenos Aires native was cautious: "I don't focus too much on that, of course you have to learn and I have much more to find, but I'm feeling much better in the team and in the car. It's no secret that the car isn't where we want it to be and that it's difficult to score points, but the time will come and I want to be ready for it. That's my goal."

Finally, he highlighted his relationship with Pierre Gasly, who renewed his contract with Alpine: "Pierre is a great guy. In fact, we've been together for a while since I joined Williams. We already got along well even though we weren't teammates. Now that we're together, he's a great teammate. We enjoy working together. We've built a very solid structure to push the team forward, even in tough times."

When Formula 1 returns

After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the top category will resume action at the beginning of October with the Singapore Grand Prix, between Friday the 3rd and Sunday the 5th at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Last year, in his debut season with Williams, the Argentine finished 11th on this track, just one position away from the points.
