Genshin Impact will launch its next major update on January 14, titled Song of the Welkin Moon: Postlude – A Traveler on a Winter’s Night, known within the community as Luna IV. This version marks a turning point in the narrative and gameplay development of HoYoverse's title, with major additions that expand the world of Teyvat and redefine several combat mechanics.
Among the main new features, the arrival of long-awaited characters stands out, the first expansion to the north of Nod-Krai, and the decisive advance of the central story with the direct confrontation against Il Dottore.
New playable characters and Lunar system
The update introduces three new playable characters that fulfill strategic roles in the new elemental system. Columbina, known as the Lunar Maiden, debuts as a five-star Hydro character who uses a catalyst. Her kit is focused on support and on enhancing the so-called Lunar Reactions, a new layer of elemental interactions.
Her main ability, Lunar Dominion, amplifies the effects of these reactions, allowing players to summon electrical storms in charged reactions and substantially improve Hydro crystallization, turning her into a key piece for advanced team compositions.

Zibai, the White Horse Adeptus of Liyue, is a five-star Geo character who wields a sword and acts as the core of the new Lunar-Crystallize system, an elemental reaction that arises under specific conditions when Geo and Hydro interact. As Zibai accumulates activations, the damage of this reaction increases in power and frequency, modifying the traditional dynamics of combat.
The third addition is Illuga, a four-star Geo Lightkeeper who fights accompanied by a messenger bird. His role is oriented toward tactical support and synergy with the new lunar mechanics.
Expansion of Nod-Krai and new narrative content
Luna IV expands the map northward into the continent of Nod-Krai, adding the region of Pyramid, the main headquarters of the Lightkeepers. This unprecedented territory includes the western Embla Pillar and the Kipumaki Cliffs, areas marked by the persistent threat of the Wild Hunt.
Players will be able to access new world quests, collaborate with the Lightkeepers and Illuga, and delve deeper into the conflict that defines this region. The expansion not only adds exploratory content but also reinforces Nod-Krai's narrative identity within the game universe.
Confrontation with Il Dottore and progress of the main story
One of the central points of the update is the climax of the story arc that pits the Traveler against Il Dottore. After obtaining the power of the Lunar Shards, the antagonist takes his experiments to a point of no return, forcing the protagonists to enter his domain, a space where the laws of reality are distorted.
