Argentina

The values on which our Homeland was founded are the fire where its future greatness is forged.

For years, Argentina suffered serious economic problems. But reducing our country's issues to mere economic problems is to stay on the surface of the issue. The economy is conditioned to a greater or lesser extent by politics. More precisely, by politicians. This means that the root of economic problems is political issues. They are not just numbers; what is being discussed are ideas.

When the current government began and President Javier Milei started to speak of Argentina as the beacon of the West, many repeated that concept without stopping to think about what it really meant. What is the West? What sustains it? What values define it?

In the week of May, we remember one of the foundational moments of our Homeland. May 25 should not just be a holiday or a symbolic celebration. It should also be an opportunity to ask ourselves who we are, where we come from, and what kind of country we want to build.

Let us remember today more than ever that “God is the source of all reason and justice.” This implies that there is a Creator of the entire universe. And the State that does not respect God becomes a God State. That is, a State that does not eliminate the spirituality of men but seeks to assume and control it. It becomes a secular religion where politicians are its priests and bishops who have a pseudo-divine mandate. With which they can intervene in people's lives, even in their intimacy. All in the name of justice or, rather, what they say is justice.

Today many people talk about love for the Homeland. But, to truly love the Homeland, one must first know it. Know its history, its traditions, its heroes, its foundational ideas, and also its mistakes. Because peoples that are unaware of their history end up repeating past mistakes. As Cicero said: “History is the teacher of life.” In a framework where everything is often relativized —culture, traditions, even the sense of belonging— we believe it is important to bring back into discussion those foundations that made our civilization and our Nation possible.

The family is the natural cell that constitutes society. As such, it is irreplaceable. The role of the State must be to protect it, never to replace it. There is nothing more valuable to a person than their own family. Just one example is enough. Four years ago we won the World Cup. All the players of the national team, at the moment of the greatest glory of their professional careers, thanked and became emotional talking about their families. There is no success, money, or politician that can replace a father's word, a mother's kiss, or a child's gaze.

In this context, a few weeks ago we published “God, Homeland, and Family.” A book that seeks to contribute to that debate and organize many of those ideas that for years have been left out of public conversation. Not as an empty slogan or a nostalgic view of the past, but as an invitation to reflect on what sustains a society over time.

The West did not emerge from nothing. It was built on certain values, on an idea of transcendence, institutions, customs, and bonds that provided stability and meaning to our communities. Argentina was also born from that tradition.

That is why, beyond any political or economic situation, there is a fundamental cultural discussion that we cannot ignore. A discussion about what values we want to transmit, what identity we want to defend, and what legacy we want to leave to future generations.

The cultural battle, ultimately, is not about living anchored in the past, but about defending those values that make possible the future of the country that we want to leave to our children. Because May 25 is not just memory: it is also the decision to defend the identity, history, and values on which our Nation was built.
