The national government urged the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) to guarantee the safety of students after the acts of violence registered at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where liberal young people, from the group Somos Libres, were attacked by left-wing groups as part of the elections for the student center.
The incidents occurred when libertarian students were trying to oversee the elections, a key task to ensure the transparency of the process. In this context, left-wing groups reacted with cries, pushes and attempts to prevent them from entering the establishment, creating a climate of tension
within the faculty.Despite the seriousness of the events, the students report that the institution's authorities did not intervene to stop the attacks, which aggravated the situation and allowed the episodes of harassment to unfold
without control.Faced with this scenario, the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro “El Profe” Álvarez, sent a formal note to the rector's office demanding explanations and urgent measures. In the communication, the official emphasized the university's obligation to guarantee security, freedom of expression and the normal development of academic life
