By January 2026, the Government of Javier Milei eliminated a total of 65,582 state jobs since the beginning of his administration, in a measure that seeks to lower public spending, consolidate fiscal balance and make progress in reducing taxes.
The figure was confirmed by the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, who reported the figure through his official account on the social network X. There, the official directly linked the reduction in public employment to the objective of alleviating the tax burden on citizens and the productive sector.
“How do you lower taxes? Lowering spending! The State had become so oversized that month after month we continued to find spaces to continue to lower the tax burden on the taxpayer. VLLC! ”, said Sturzenegger when announcing the progress of the program to reduce the size of the State
.The total figure includes cuts at different levels of the national public sector, including centralized administration, decentralized agencies, state companies and also personnel linked to the military and security spheres.
The reduction process has especially accelerated over the past year.
What happened last year
