The Milei Government formalized the guarantees from the IDB and the World Bank for US$1.75 billion

The national government has officially approved guarantees with two key multilateral organizations for a total of 1.75 billion dollars. Through decrees 549 and 550, published in the Official Bulletin, contracts were finalized with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), part of the World Bank Group.

These operations are part of a strategy to cover debt maturities with financing at more accessible rates than the current market. In this context, President Javier Milei had already authorized borrowing up to 5 billion dollars from international banks.

The Central Bank evaluated both initiatives and determined that they will not generate impacts on the current account or the financial account of the balance of payments.

IDB Guarantee for Security and Justice

In detail, the IDB's guarantee of 550 million dollars will support the Proactive Security and Justice Policies program, known as PROSEJUS. This initiative aims to strengthen the security and justice system to reduce impunity in crimes linked to criminal organizations.

Among its main objectives are to improve criminal prosecution, criminal investigation, and the recovery of illicit assets. The Ministry of Finance will act as the implementing authority for this program.

This is a partial credit guarantee that will allow for key reforms driven by the current administration to move forward.

This measure represents concrete support to enhance institutional capacities in security matters.

World Bank Support for Employment and Investment

For its part, the IBRD will provide a policy-based guarantee of up to 1.2 billion dollars under the program "Boosting Investment and Private Sector Growth for Job Creation in Argentina."

According to the organization, the operation will reduce the country's financing costs while supporting a reform agenda aimed at creating jobs, attracting infrastructure investments, and improving financial inclusion for small businesses.

The decree authorizes the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance to sign the agreement and complementary documentation. Additionally, it allows for adjustments that do not modify the main object or increase the amount of the guarantee.

These multilateral guarantees aim to provide greater predictability and confidence to the markets, facilitating access to financing under better conditions.
