The Polish company Green Capital announced an ambitious project to build a megadata center dedicated to artificial intelligence in Chubut, the first stage of which would require an investment of between US$3 billion and US$5 billion. The complex will be located south of Trelew and will combine large-scale digital infrastructure with its own renewable energy generation.

The venture, named Atlas GigaHub, was presented at the Polish Embassy in Argentina, where the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Schneider Electric, Wärtsilä, Envision Energy, and Ore Energy. The event was attended by Governor Ignacio Torres and representatives from PromArgentina, the national agency responsible for promoting investments and foreign trade.

Green Capital has been working on the initiative for almost two years and has already leased 130,000 hectares belonging to 14 owners. The agreement includes six years to develop the project and another 60 for its operation. The company also reported that it has conducted environmental impact studies and completed the technical and legal review of the land.

In the first phase, the data center aims to achieve a power output of 300 megawatts. The ultimate goal is to reach 3,000 MW of energy capacity dedicated to technological infrastructure. The company intends to finalize discussions with investors and potential clients by 2027, while the start of construction is projected for 2028.

Business leaders highlighted that the choice of Chubut is due to its wind resources, land availability, low energy costs, and climatic conditions, which would allow for natural cooling of part of the facilities. The plan includes building wind and solar parks to supply the complex, instead of relying solely on the electrical grid.

The firm also valued Argentina's geopolitical stability and the legal security framework created by the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) promoted by the Government of Javier Milei. Its executives emphasized that the RIGI provides tax predictability and facilitates the import of necessary equipment, two central elements for an investment of this magnitude.

In addition, there is the Chubut Hub Digital 2030 project, which aims to install the second landing point of a submarine fiber optic cable in the province. Currently, the only connection of this type is located in Las Toninas.

The Atlas GigaHub will primarily focus on exporting services related to artificial intelligence. If realized, the project would allow for a multiplication of the installed capacity of data centers in Argentina, generate local employment, and position Patagonia as one of the new technological and energy hubs in the region.
