Urban violence once again took center stage in Buenos Aires. In a new episode that reflects citizens' defenselessness in the face of rising crime, a retired officer from the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) confronted two motorcycle thieves who tried to rob him this Tuesday in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Núñez. The former officer repelled the attack, shot one of the criminals dead, and was unharmed. His intervention prevented the incident from ending in tragedy for him and his companion, although—paradoxically—the Justice system decided to keep him in custody while it is determined whether he acted in self-defense.
According to police sources, everything began after 1:00 p.m., when the former first corporal was accompanying a friend to a financial institution located at Reconquista and Corrientes Avenue, in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires. His companion carried out a cash withdrawal operation there. Then both got into a Fiat Palio to return to the northern area, unaware that they were being followed by a KTM Duke motorcycle with two armed suspects on board.

Upon reaching the corner of Cuba and Iberá, in the heart of the Núñez neighborhood, the assailants violently intercepted the vehicle and got out threatening them to subdue them. Faced with the imminent risk of death, the former officer drew his service weapon and defended himself. There was a brief exchange of gunfire that ended with one of the criminals shot dead and the other fleeing at full speed on the motorcycle, who is now being intensely sought by security forces.
