The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) deployed an official delegation to Venezuela to assist in the reconstruction of areas affected by the recent earthquakes, despite the fact that both countries have not maintained diplomatic relations for approximately 17 years.
The Israeli mission was not focused on immediate rescue tasks, but was specifically called to design a strategic reconstruction plan. In this context, a team of specialists worked alongside Venezuelan authorities to develop a comprehensive roadmap aimed at analyzing the damaged infrastructure.
The delegation was led by Brigadier General Elad Edri, head of the General Staff of the IDF Home Front Command, who led a group of experts in engineering, urban planning, and emergency management.
Venezuelan and Israeli authorities
After holding meetings with high-ranking officials of the Venezuelan regime and conducting on-site inspections, the team managed to develop a complete action plan in just a few days.
Among the main measures included in the program are the creation of detailed maps of the affected structures, the demolition of buildings that pose a risk, debris removal, and the restoration of critical infrastructure.
As part of the technical work, the Israeli Home Front Command has already mapped around 1300 damaged structures, including residential buildings, schools, hotels, and other public constructions.
The plan was presented to the Venezuelan Minister of Infrastructure, while the engineering teams began to expand the damage assessment and prepare for the implementation of the recommendations on the ground.
Venezuelan and Israeli authorities
From the delegation, it was emphasized that the approach taken is based on decades of Israeli experience in earthquake response, as well as the knowledge accumulated through international humanitarian assistance missions and emergency operations within its own territory.
Beyond the technical work, the members of the mission noted that they received a warm welcome from both the authorities and the local population.
According to them, the team, which operated in IDF uniforms and under local security protection, was recognized by government officials, security personnel, and civilians during their tours of the affected areas.
The Israeli presence in Venezuela, in this context, marks a historic episode of international cooperation amid a complex scenario, where technical assistance and disaster management expertise emerged as priorities.
