Frenchman Quentin Folliot was found guilty of 27 violations and received one of the harshest sanctions in the history of tennis

The world of tennis has just witnessed a historic moment. Quentin Folliot, a 26-year-old Frenchman who reached as high as No. 488 in the ATP rankings, received a categorical sanction that practically expels him from the sport: 20 years of suspension.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found him responsible for a series of irregularities that, taken together, constitute one of the most serious cases in recent years: 27 violations related to match-fixing, sports corruption, destruction of evidence, and lack of cooperation with the investigation.

The investigation revealed that Folliot not only manipulated results or received money for not competing at his highest level, but also acted as a key figure within a wider network dedicated to match-fixing. According to the ruling, he offered payments to other players, shared insider information, conspired to benefit betting, and concealed evidence. In some cases, he even attempted to recruit colleagues to deepen the reach of the criminal scheme.

The player initially denied 30 charges related to 11 matches played between 2022 and 2024 (eight of which he himself played), but only three were dismissed. The rest were confirmed after a remote hearing in October 2025, which made clear the magnitude of his role within the network.

The final resolution was devastating: Folliot was suspended for 20 years from all tennis-related activities (competitions, training, and participation in any event organized by ATP, ITF, WTA, USTA, Wimbledon, Tennis Australia, or the French Federation). In this context, he will only be able to return in May 2044, when he will already be 45 years old. Along with the suspension, he must pay a fine of 70,000 dollars and reimburse more than 44,000 dollars in "corrupt payments," an amount that even exceeds much of the prize money he earned in his career.

Although the sanction against Folliot is one of the most severe in recent history, it is not the largest. ITIA had already imposed a lifetime ban on Mexican tennis player Alberto Rojas Maldonado after confirming 92 violations, the second highest number recorded by a single player.

Still, the case of the Frenchman is striking due to the extent of his involvement and the message the agency seeks to send: the fight against corruption in tennis is advancing and the increasingly harsh sanctions aim to eradicate practices that put the integrity of the sport at risk.

The other affected tennis players

ITIA also extended sanctions to other players involved in the same case, although none received a punishment comparable to Folliot's. The sanctioned tennis players were:

  • Jaimee Floyd-Angele: was suspended for five years and three months for orchestrating a fix in 2022 and for destruction of evidence (he will only be able to return on December 18, 2029)
  • Paul Valsecchi: served a suspension of four and a half months for facilitating others' schemes and failing to report corruption attempts.
  • Luc Fomba: served a suspension of two months for omitting key information about a fix in 2022 and another attempt in 2023.
  • Lucas Bouquet: served a suspension of six weeks for failing to report sensitive information
  • Enzo Rimoli: served a suspension of two months off the circuit.
