Australian studio Team Cherry announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on September 4, after seven years of development. However, this milestone will not mark the end of the project: co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen confirmed that the game will feature ambitious downloadable content that will be progressively added in the months and years following the release.
In an interview, both emphasized that the most important thing after the launch will be to consider how to expand the game's universe. Although they did not provide specific details, they revealed that some of the ideas already in the works are "especially ambitious" and will be aimed at enriching the community's experience.
Background in free expansions

The original title, released in 2017, was acclaimed by both critics and players, partly thanks to its free expansions, such as Godmaster and The Grimm Troupe. While this time it was not confirmed whether the same model will be repeated, the background suggests that the policy of free updates could be maintained.
The sustained success of the first game allowed Team Cherry to enjoy a level of financial stability rarely seen in independent studios, which in turn gave them greater freedom to design and plan long-term strategies for Silksong.
