Urban violence was once again exposed in Spain after a serious incident that occurred during the early hours of the morning in the capital of Poniente. An individual of approximately 35 years old, of Maghrebi origin, was arrested and accused of attempting to sexually assault a young man of about 25 years old and Spanish nationality in the vicinity of the historic Pont Vell de Lleida.
According to what the media were able to learn, the attack took place at around four in the morning, in complete darkness. The suspect led the victim to the lower area of the bridge, on the side of the Segre River where the statue of Indíbil i Mandoni is located, a place where the attempted rape allegedly began.

The arrest was carried out by officers of the Mossos d'Esquadra, who intervened after the victim managed to escape and immediately report what had happened. According to sources close to the investigation in Lleida, everything began when the approximately 35-year-old man offered to accompany the 25-year-old young man to his home. The young man accepted the proposal and both walked together without there seeming to be any danger at first.
However, upon reaching the Pont Vell, when they were heading toward the Cappont area, the situation took an abrupt turn. According to the victim's account, when they went down below the platform where vehicles travel, the darkness was even greater and the attack took place there.It was at that point that the individual attempted to penetrate him anally, initiating the sexual assault.
The assailant did not manage to penetrate him anally due to the young man's resistance. Nevertheless, before the victim could escape after that first attempted sexual assault, the man forced him to attempt to perform fellatio on him. The young man managed to avoid it and succeeded in running away from the place before the alleged assailant could chase him.
Mossos d'Esquadra
After fleeing, the victim went directly to the nearest police station of the Mossos d'Esquadra, where he filed the complaint. The police response was immediate:Citizen Security Units that were patrolling the area were activated. Thanks to the description provided by the young man, a patrol managed to locate the suspect shortly afterward and proceed with his arrest.
The arrested man, who is about 35 years old and of Maghrebi origin, remains in custody accused of an attempted sexual assault in Lleida. According to the available information, he is expected to appear before the court this Friday. Sources close to the case indicate that the victim's account doesn't present contradictions and is completely coherent, an element that reinforces the police investigation.
