The figure aligns with private analysts' projections

The Consumer Price Index of the City of Buenos Aires (CPIBA) recorded a 2.1% increase in June, according to the report published by the General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of Buenos Aires. This way, inflation accumulated in the first half of the year reached 15.3%, while the year-on-year variation stood at 44.5%, marking a deceleration of 3.8 percentage points compared to May.

The figure is in line with projections from private analysts and anticipates the number that INDEC will soon release for the national level, which is expected to be around 2%.

Which sectors drove inflation in June

The main divisions that explained 74.4% of the overall increase were:

  • Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+3.1%): increases in rents and building expenses.
  • Transport (+3.1%): increases in bus fares, fuel, and airline tickets.
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.6%): notable increases in bakery products (+2.4%), meats (+1.8%), and dairy products (+1.1%), while vegetables fell (-1.4%).
  • Health (+2.6%): adjustments in prepaid medical plan fees.
  • Restaurants and hotels (+1.5%): increases in meals outside the home.

Goods vs. services: which increased more

  • Goods: +1.4% monthly, +11.2% in the semester, +29.6% year-on-year.
  • Services: +2.6% monthly, +17.9% in the semester, +55.3% year-on-year.

The behavior of services reflected greater inflationary pressure, especially in housing, health, and gastronomy.

Core inflation and special categories

  • Core inflation ("Rest of CPIBA"): +2.2% in June, 46.6% year-on-year (decrease of 2.7 points).
  • Regulated prices: +2.4% monthly, 48.3% year-on-year (decrease of 8.9 points).
  • Seasonal prices: +1.2% monthly, 19.3% year-on-year (decrease of 1.3 points).

Regulated prices increased due to adjustments in bus fares, private education, and electricity. Meanwhile, seasonal prices reflected increases in tourism and decreases in vegetables.
