Kratos will lead the next God of War with a mythology different from the Norse one
Rumors suggest that the next installment will be set in a mythology different from the Norse one, which has been highly requested by followers of the saga. The choice is generating anticipation about new mechanics and settings.
The game is believed to be in an early stage of development. This year marks the 20th anniversary of God of War, celebrated so far with additional content for Ragnarök and special offers during March.
State of Play could be the moment chosen by Sony to provide the first official clues about the direction the saga will take. Fans are hoping to see details about the story, weapons, and setting.
In addition to the main God of War, the studio is developing a 2D metroidvania through an external team. This title could offer a different approach, exploring the same saga from a side-scrolling and more agile perspective.
With the rumored State of Play approaching, clues about the future of God of War have started to emerge. According to insider Tom Henderson, Kratos will remain the protagonist and will explore a mythology highly anticipated by fans.
The announcement comes after the success of God of War Ragnarök in 2022 and while Santa Monica Studio is working on several projects. Among them is a 2D metroidvania related to the saga that could be announced soon.
Henderson indicated that Kratos will appear equipped with an Egyptian-style sword, similar to the weapons in Prince of Persia. This confirms that Atreus won't be the main protagonist and that the saga will continue with its iconic character.
