The Venezuelan regime moderated its discourse and called for dialogue with the U.S. in a message addressed to Trump

The interim dictator, Delcy Rodríguez, released a public message addressed "to the world and to the United States". Throughout this message, it is possible to note that the chavista regime is abandoning its confrontational rhetoric and is openly raising the possibility of cooperation with Washington. The statement marks a discursive break after years of confrontation, sanctions, and international isolation.

"Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence", Rodríguez stated. She added that the country aspires to live "without external threats, in an environment of respect and international cooperation". The insistence on the absence of threats reveals more than a pacifist stance: it exposes the regime's concern about its position of vulnerability in the face of external pressure.

The acknowledgment of its lack of power

In another part of the message, Rodríguez affirmed: "We consider it a priority to move toward a balanced and respectful international relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela". This demonstrates that cooperation with the United States has become a strategic necessity.

The chavista leader extended an explicit invitation to the U.S. government to move forward on a cooperation agenda. "We invite the U.S. government to collaborate with us on a cooperation agenda aimed at shared development within the framework of international law in order to strengthen lasting community coexistence.", she expressed.

The most eloquent point of the statement comes with the direct mention of the U.S. president: "President Donald Trump: our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war". The explicit reference to Donald Trump confirms that chavismo identifies his leadership as the key actor in the regional scenario.

Far from traditional anti-imperialist rhetoric, the regime now chooses to address Trump as a valid interlocutor. It acknowledges his capacity for pressure and his central role in policy toward Venezuela.

The attempt to gloss over a rupture

Rodríguez sought to present this shift as a continuity of the official discourse by stating that "this has always been President Nicolás Maduro's message". However, the phrase contrasts with decades of confrontation, expropriations of foreign assets, expulsion of diplomats, and systematic rupture with the United States.

The mention of Nicolás Maduro attempts to frame the change in tone as a sovereign decision, when in fact it responds to the regime's loss of room for maneuver. This lack of options, leads to the need to open negotiation channels from a defensive position.

What this message anticipates

The statement doesn't reflect an ideological transformation or a genuine commitment to democracy, but rather a forced adaptation to an adverse scenario. Chavismo seeks to reduce pressure, gain time, and preserve power in a context of economic deterioration, internal fatigue, and regional isolation.

Delcy Rodríguez's message confirms that, when the cost of sustaining confrontation becomes too high, even the most closed regimes adjust their discourse. Once again, it is the pressure from the United States —with Trump as the central figure— that pushes chavismo to retreat and to sit at the negotiating table.
