Iran threatened to attack Ukraine directly because of its support for Israel in the war

An Iranian legislator launched a strong threat against the European country, which is currently at war with Russia, an ally of Iran.

An Iranian legislator threatened to consider the entire territory of Ukraine as a “legitimate objective”, after accusing the European country of supporting militarily to Israel in the defense against Iranian drones. The statements increase international tension in the midst of the conflict in the Middle East.

Ebrahim Azizi, a member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that Ukraine would have provided drone support to the Israeli government. According to the legislator, this supposed cooperation amounts to direct participation in the conflict

.

“By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, Ukraine has effectively engaged in the war and, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, has turned all of its territory into a legitimate target for Iran,” Azizi said.

The cited article of the UN Charter recognizes the right of states to self-defense in the event of an armed attack. However, specialists in international law point out that using this provision to justify possible attacks against a third country without clear evidence of direct aggression is a highly questionable interpretation

.

Until now, there has been no public evidence to confirm that Ukraine has provided drones or direct military assistance to Israel for operations against Iran. For this reason, several analysts consider that the statements of the Iranian legislator are part of a strategy of political and rhetorical pressure in a context of strong

regional tensions.

The threats have also generated criticism of Tehran because of its own history in the use and supply of military drones. In recent years, Western governments have repeatedly accused Iran of transferring drone technology to allies and armed groups in different conflicts, raising international concern about the proliferation of such weapons.

International security experts warn that statements such as those of Azizi can contribute to expanding geopolitical tensions and increasing the risk of escalation. Ukraine, already facing a protracted conflict after the Russian invasion that began in 2022, could be involved in new diplomatic disputes if Iranian rhetoric continues to intensify

.

Analysts point out that the use of threats against a country that is not a direct part of the conflict in the Middle East reflects a confrontational stance on the part of some political sectors in Iran. These types of messages, they argue, not only complicate the diplomatic landscape, but also reinforce international criticism of Iranian foreign policy

.

For now, no concrete actions have been announced by the Iranian government against Ukraine. However, the statements have caused concern among international observers, who warn that the expansion of the conflict to new actors could further aggravate global instability
