Authorities in Germany are investigating a violent incident that took place in the city of Herford, in the western part of the country, where a 16-year-old teenager was seriously injured after being attacked with a knife by a 15-year-old Iraqi immigrant, who was arrested a few hours after the incident following his flight from the scene.
The attack occurred on Thursday night, around 7:30 p.m., on a side street next to the local Christmas market, a busy spot during this time of year. According to police information, the victim was stabbed in the back and suffered extremely severe injuries that put his life at risk. After being assisted by emergency teams, he was immediately taken to a regional hospital, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
According to a police spokesperson, the case is being investigated as attempted homicide and aggravated assault. The severity of the attack led the homicide unit of the Bielefeld police headquarters to take over the investigation. So far, authorities have confirmed that both the striker and the victim knew each other previously, although no details have been provided about the relationship between them or a possible motive.

Some witnesses told local media that, after being stabbed, the injured teenager tried to seek help at a nearby church. He managed to walk only a few meters before collapsing, which led to the swift intervention of bystanders and emergency services.
