The state-owned company CAMYEN reported that it has land with mining potential that will be offered to POSCO

The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, held a meeting with Park Hyeon, president of POSCO Argentina, to discuss the development of the mining project that the South Korean company is carrying out in the Catamarca Puna.

During the meeting, held at the Government House, the next steps of the investment plan, road infrastructure, and the strengthening of local suppliers were addressed.

POSCO employs 1,000 Catamarca residents directly and indirectly

At the meeting, which was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Mining and the state-owned company CAMYEN, POSCO highlighted that the project already employs about 1,000 Catamarca workers, including both direct and indirect positions. The venture is considered one of the most important in the province in terms of sustainable mining and job creation.

Paving of Provincial Route No. 43 is progressing

One of the main topics was the progress of the paving of Provincial Route No. 43, a key project to improve connectivity in the Puna region, particularly in the department of Antofagasta de la Sierra. According to reports, 17 of the planned 60 kilometers (37 miles) have already been paved in the first stage, and work is expected to continue at a good pace until September.

POSCO confirmed its financial contribution to this project, considered strategic to ensure the logistics of mining development and access to local communities.

Promotion of local suppliers and new exploration areas

Additionally, a meeting with Catamarca mining sector suppliers was announced, with the aim of strengthening the local ecosystem of services and supplies related to mining, thus promoting local purchasing and the development of regional SMEs.

Meanwhile, the state-owned company CAMYEN reported that it has land with mining potential that will be offered to POSCO for evaluation for exploration and investment purposes. These new areas seek to expand the scope of the project and attract greater capital flow to the provincial territory.

Participants in the meeting

The governor was accompanied at the meeting by ministers Marcelo Murúa (Mining), Juan Marchetti (Finance and Public Works), Fernando Monguillot (Government, Security, and Justice), the general government advisor, Mara Murua, and the president of CAMYEN, Hugo Moya.
