Jannik Sinner once again demonstrated why he is the best tennis player in the world. The Italian came back from a high-level match against Alexander Zverev and won 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, and 6-4 to conquer Wimbledon for the second consecutive year. With this victory, the world number one achieved his fifth Grand Slam title and became the tenth player of the Open Era to successfully defend the crown on the grass of the All England Club.
The final started with a marked parity. Both players showed great solidity with their serves and for much of the first set did not concede break points. The conclusion came in the tie break, where Zverev was more effective in the decisive points and took the set 9-7, also becoming the first opponent to take a set from Sinner in the tournament.
The match would start very evenly, but Sinner would manage to pull ahead with his first break in the third set
In the second set, the Italian reacted. Although the play was again very balanced and without differences from the baseline, this time he clearly dominated the tiebreak, taking a quick lead and closing it out 7-2 to level the match.
The turning point came in the third set. After maintaining intensity for several games, Sinner achieved the first break of the entire final and took control of the set. He even recovered from a fall during one of the points to ultimately win 6-3 and be one set away from the title.
In the fourth chapter, he maintained control of the match. Zverev, who had arrived in London after winning Roland Garros, continued to resist and never stopped fighting for every point, but the Italian broke again at the right moment and managed the lead until closing the match 6-4, after three hours and 46 minutes of play.
With this new title, Sinner reached 100 victories in Grand Slam tournaments, a milestone that only a handful of active tennis players have achieved. Additionally, he reaffirmed his dominance over Zverev, whom he defeated again to extend a favorable streak in their head-to-head record and solidify his status as the leading figure in the men's circuit.
