Milei also directly appealed to the figure of San Martín to present freedom as a mandate that should guide the country's decisions. The president maintained that Argentina must continue along the path laid out by the Liberator and preserve what he defined as his main legacy.
“Today we must have freedom as a mandate in our sights and follow the path our founding father laid out in the sand and protected with the blood of his cavalry grenadiers,” he expressed.
The legacy of San Martín
The President concluded his remarks by emphasizing the need to preserve the legacy of General San Martín and linking it to his objectives for the country.
“Therefore, all our efforts must go towards preserving on all fronts the greatest legacy of General San Martín: a free homeland and a flourishing people,” Milei stated.
The ceremony took place at the Monument to the Liberator in Plaza San Martín, in Retiro, on the occasion of the new anniversary of the Argentine hero's passing.
At the beginning of the event, Milei was accompanied by Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency. The president was also received by Carlos Presti, Minister of Defense, and Jorge Macri, head of the Buenos Aires Government, with whom he shared an embrace upon his arrival.
