President Javier Milei received the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Universidad de San Martín de Porres this Tuesday, one of the most recognized academic institutions in Peru, for his commitment to the defense of economic and social freedom, the modernization of the State, and the development of contemporary economic debate.
The ceremony took place at the Faculty of Law of the university in Lima, after the Argentine president participated in the inauguration of Keiko Fujimori as president of Peru. Milei traveled accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno.

The authorities of the educational institution highlighted the career of the head of state as an economist, teacher, and political leader, as well as his contribution to the dissemination of the ideas of freedom and his confrontation against the statist structures that have conditioned the region's growth for decades.
Raúl Eduardo Bao García, vice-rector of the institution, stated that the recognition was not merely a protocol act, but an expression of ethical and intellectual alignment with personalities capable of transforming history.
During his speech, he assured that Milei managed to break “the structures of global political apathy” and restore citizens' confidence in economic and civil freedom. He also emphasized his role as an academic and his decision to move his ideas from the classroom to the electoral contest and public management.
The vice-rector affirmed that the Argentine president leads a cultural battle against “stifling statism, immoral collectivism, and the corrosive advance of populism and communist crime,” while praising his intellectual honesty and willingness to defend uncomfortable truths against the lies commonly used by traditional political leadership.
Upon receiving the distinction, Milei expressed that it was an honor to be included in the list of personalities recognized by the university and reaffirmed the progress made during his first two years in office. The President explained that his decisions are guided by ethical and moral criteria, even above any electoral convenience. “That is the decision-making matrix. And that is above economic efficiency, and economic efficiency is above political utility,” he stated.
In this regard, he maintained that just policies also end up being economically efficient and reaffirmed that his Government's growth strategy is based on three pillars: “deregulation, human capital, and opening up the economy.”

Milei also referred to the evolution of the Argentine economy and assured that “the situation will also improve.” To support this projection, he pointed out that exports are growing at a rate five times higher than the Gross Domestic Product, highlighted the recovery of real wages, and stated that the decline in inflation allows for an improvement in pensions and retirements in real terms.
“There is still much to do, but we have advanced in the right direction,” affirmed the president, who recalled the decreases recorded in poverty, extreme poverty, child poverty, inflation, and the tax burden.

The president also took the opportunity to announce that on Thursday he will deliver a national address in which he will explain the reform project for the Central Bank. As he anticipated, the initiative aims to prevent the monetary authority from financing the Treasury directly or indirectly through issuance.
The distinction received in Lima represents a new international recognition for the President and for the reforms promoted by Argentina, at a time when the ideas of freedom continue to gain ground against the economic and social failure caused by populism in Latin America.
