President Javier Milei will receive the newly appointed United States ambassador, Peter Lamelas, this Monday in what will be their first official meeting since the diplomat's arrival in the country. The meeting, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Casa Rosada, confirms the excellent state of relations between both governments, based on a shared vision regarding the economy, freedom, and international cooperation.
Lamelas was appointed after nearly a year of vacancy at the U.S. Embassy, following Marc Stanley's departure. During that period, chargés d'affaires Abigail Dressel and Heidi Gómez Rápalo kept the bilateral agenda moving forward, paving the way for this new diplomatic stage.
Economic support and political backing from Washington
The arrival of the new ambassador comes in a context of maximum understanding between Buenos Aires and Washington, sustained by the activation of the $20 billion financial swap and the assistance of the U.S. Treasury to the local market. The Argentine government highlights that this support was key to stabilizing the exchange rate situation during the electoral process.
Presidency sources acknowledge that U.S. support had a decisive impact. "They gave us crucial help," they stated. This political and financial backing was consolidated with the electoral victory on October 26, which strengthened Milei's leadership and reaffirmed his vision of strategic alignment with the United States and the West.

Government priorities: political consensus and structural reforms
Meanwhile, the Argentine executive branch is moving forward with its strategy of political dialogue with legislators and governors to approve the 2026 Budget, along with tax and labor reforms, which are considered essential by the White House to ensure governability and economic stability.
Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, who officially received Lamelas's credentials, highlighted the "highest level of bilateral relations" achieved thanks to the joint efforts of Javier Milei and Joe Biden. In November, Quirno will travel to Washington to meet with senior U.S. officials, including Marco Rubio, Howard Lutnick, Jamieson Greer, and Scott Bessent, with the aim of advancing a trade and tariff agreement that will strengthen economic integration.

Milei will travel to Miami for the America Business Forum
In the coming hours, the president will travel with Quirno and Karina Milei to Miami to participate in the America Business Forum, one of the most important economic events on the continent. The summit will bring together figures such as Lionel Messi, Jamie Dimon (JP Morgan), Steve Witkoff, Rafael Nadal, Gianni Infantino, María Corina Machado, and Ken Griffin (Citadel).
On November 5, Donald Trump will be one of the main speakers at the forum, the same day the Argentine president is expected to attend. Although no formal meeting is scheduled between them, Milei will participate as an invited speaker, reinforcing his international prominence and his ideological closeness to the former Republican president.
