Argentine President Javier Milei achieved second place in a vote held by readers of British newspaper The Telegraph regarding the most influential political leaders of 2025.

The recognition stems from a survey promoted by the outlet itself, which combined the perspective of its editorial team with the direct participation of its audience to draw up two parallel rankings of political figures with national and international impact.

According to the British outlet, the process was carried out in two stages. First, a panel of experts selected five presidents and prime ministers who were interviewed and profiled based on criteria related to their influence and global projection.

Prior to the jury's final decision, the site's readers took part in an open vote that gathered more than 10,000 responses, which made it possible to draw up an alternative list with the five leaders most voted by the public.

In Javier Milei's case, the publication particularly highlighted his successful economic performance since he took office as president. The outlet praised the progress in the sharp drop in inflation and the achievement of a fiscal surplus as central pillars of his administration.

Among the points highlighted by the editorial team, the evolution of social indicators was emphasized, particularly the reduction of poverty, which went "from 50% to 31% during his administration."

The article also devoted a section to reproducing readers' opinions, which reflected the support of sectors of Argentine society and of international observers.

Among the testimonies cited is that of Nicolas Antonelli, who stated: "Before Milei, I was planning to leave the country, but Milei gave me hope." In his comment, Antonelli added that "sales of new and used cars, motorcycles, and home deeds have increased considerably as access to credit for the middle class, which had been practically nonexistent in previous years, is gradually returning. Although there is still a long way to go and credit is still not available to everyone, the improvement is very remarkable. All this in just two years. I am currently paying for my first car."

Another reader cited by The Telegraph was Olliver Robinson, a former London resident, who focused on the ideological and academic profile of the Argentine president.

"He is the only leader in the world with full economic culture, and not only that, but also with a culture of the one and true economics: the Austrian school," he maintained. In that vein, he added that this combination makes him "the most important and transformative political leader of our time, if not of all time."

The British outlet also stressed that Milei achieved an "unexpected result" in the midterm elections, a fact that expanded his margin for political action and strengthened his projection toward 2026.

In the ranking drawn up by the readers, first place went to Italy's prime minister, Giorgia Meloni. Behind her were the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in third place; the Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, in fourth; and Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in fifth place.

In the list compiled by the newspaper's journalists, Milei ranked third, behind Maia Sandu, president of Moldova, and Giorgia Meloni. The editorial ranking is completed by Ahmed Husseín al-Charaa of Syria in fourth place, and the president of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, in fifth.

The impact of the article reached the Casa Rosada. After his New Year's greeting, Milei shared a screenshot of the piece accompanied by the expression "Neighborhood Phenomenon," a phrase that he often uses.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno referred to the recognition on social media: "Our president has been selected as the 2nd world leader by the readers of British newspaper Telegraph and also appears on the leaders' podium, according to the newspaper's editorial line. @GiorgiaMeloni and @JMilei are the only two leaders who appear on the podium of both rankings! Those who represent and defend Western values: Life, Liberty, and Private Property are the most popular leaders in the world!"
