A series of violent events between April 22 and 25 raised international alarms. The violence left several dead, vehicles burned, and a strong questioning of the government's ability to guarantee security in one of the country's most important tourist destinations.
On April 22, a second lieutenant of the Secretariat of National Defense was killed in Guerrero Negro while performing civilian activities. That same day, Ulises Omar Cota Montaño, commander of the Narcotics Unit of the State Attorney General's Office, was killed in the Camino Real neighborhood of La Paz.

On April 24, in Cabo San Lucas, three public transport buses were set on fire, paralyzing the service during the high season. The next day, a confrontation in the Arcos del Sol neighborhood between security forces and a criminal cell left four detained and one officer injured.
United States issues warning amid rising violence
Amid this escalation, the United States Consulate in Tijuana issued a security alert for its citizens in La Paz and Los Cabos. The warning recommends avoiding crowds, staying alert, and following instructions from local authorities.
