Jorge Reale targeted Riquelme: 'Boca needs to be saved from him'

The opposition leader intensified his criticism of the Xeneize idol and held his administration responsible for the club's sporting and institutional crisis

Jorge Reale, businessman and opposition leader at Boca, has once again positioned himself in the club's political scene with harsh statements against Juan Román Riquelme, whom he directly blamed for the club's poor sporting and institutional situation.

"I saw Boca in a bad way. The team plays very poorly. It's the consequence of five years of Riquelme, of not having a plan, of a president who doesn't know where he's going, of a Football Council that does everything wrong, of looking for a coach just to get by, of waiting for a player to save you, and of not knowing why you wanted to be Boca's president," Reale said on the program Decime qué se siente, without any kind of filter.

Reale, who will be a candidate again in the elections, stated that "Boca must be saved from Riquelme" and that he is willing to unite the entire opposition to "save" the club from this situation: "The ones harmed are the members and fans," he said.

He also referred to the future of La Bombonera, and considered that modernizing the stadium is a priority: "The stadium issue is much more important than the Seventh. It's a matter of state policy. That and the statute must be solved. At Boca, whoever wins takes everything. Why isn't there room for the opposition? Boca must be refounded. But with projects, not by taking the elections to court so they can play the victim."

Finally, he was forceful regarding a possible new electoral scenario: "If the elections were at the end of the year, Riquelme wouldn't win, I would win. Boca fans don't like to lose. Boca is Deportivo Ganar and Riquelme has shown he doesn't know how to win."

Reale's words reignite the heated political climate at Brandsen 805, in the midst of an irregular sporting year that will seek to stay afloat with the Clausura and the Copa Argentina.
