The trial over Diego Maradona's death was suspended after videos recorded inside the courtroom were released. The images, released, showed Judge Julieta Makintach in her office, walking through the courthouse, and even speaking from her car.
The commotion was not only due to her appearance on camera, but also because everything indicated that they were part of a documentary filmed without official authorization. This incident triggered an institutional scandal that forced the Oral Criminal Court No. 3 of San Isidro to halt the proceedings for a week.
The controversy behind the filming
According to reports, a friend of the magistrate stated that the footage was not part of a judicial documentary, but rather a personal interview about her role as a woman and judge. However, the images also showed her sharing the scene with Fernando Burlando and Maradona's daughters, Dalma and Gianinna, which raised doubts about the real purpose of the audiovisual project.
The focus of the conflict was not her role as a judge in legal terms, but the decision to allow or facilitate the recordings inside the courthouse. The lack of official authorization raised alarms. For many, this incident broke the impartiality required in such a high-profile trial as Maradona's death.
Makintach could face serious charges such as breach of public official duties, malfeasance, incompatible negotiations, and even illicit association.
