Kirchnerist cunning: $300 million fraud in severance payments at FAN reported
Former officials are accused of collecting million-dollar severance payments and being rehired by the State
The National Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology announced that it will take the outgoing authorities of the Argentine Nanotechnology Foundation (FAN) to court after detecting an alleged maneuver of institutional asset stripping during the Kirchnerist administration.
According to an official statement, several individuals who were part of FAN's structure left the organization, receiving severance payments totaling approximately 300 million pesos (661,387 pounds). However, these same individuals were immediately rehired afterward, in the same positions and functions they previously held.
"The time when some believed the State was their property to use at will is over," the Secretariat warned in a forceful tone.
Alleged misuse of public resources
The agency under the Chief of Cabinet's Office stated that these actions are part of a practice aimed at the improper use of State resources. In the words of a spokesperson for the area, "it was clearly a planned move to collect million-dollar compensations, without relinquishing positions or functions."

The legal action will be brought against the authorities appointed by the previous administration, in an attempt to set a precedent against administrative abuse practices. The objective, they indicated, is "to bring transparency to the operation of the country's scientific and technological agencies."
An unforgivable act of cunning
The Argentine Nanotechnology Foundation is a key entity in driving frontier technologies. Its reputation and institutional integrity are essential for attracting investment, promoting research, and connecting the private sector with the scientific system. The complaint raises concern among those who warn that such practices undermine trust in the State.
The individuals involved have not yet been publicly identified, but the judicial case is expected to move forward quickly. Meanwhile, the Innovation Secretariat stated that they are committed to a thorough audit of all entities under their jurisdiction to prevent similar situations from recurring.
