Far-left activists desecrated the UNS flagpole by replacing the national flag with the Palestinian flag

At the National University of the South (UNS), located at Alem 1200, a true political and academic scandal unfolded. During the university day, left-wing activists from the Tesis XI group —the youth wing of the Socialist Workers' Party (PTS)— raised a Palestinian flag on the main flagpole instead of the national Argentine flag.

The incident occurred amid an atmosphere of international tension due to the conflict in the Middle East, where Israel is responding militarily to the terrorist attacks by Hamas that took place on October 7, 2023. The action was immediately denounced as an outrage against national symbols by various local academic and political sectors.

From the official Tesis XI Instagram account, the activists justified the act by stating: "We won't be the generation that looks the other way while a genocide is taking place. We fill universities across the country with Palestinian flags denouncing the genocide in Gaza."

The interventions were not limited to the flagpole: the group painted graffiti and put up posters against Bahía Blanca mayor Federico Susbielles, whom they accused of "supporting the genocide in Gaza" for having met with the Israeli ambassador, Eyal Sela. Among the repeated slogans was the antisemitic phrase "Free Palestine from the river to the sea", a motto that directly promotes the disappearance of the State of Israel.

The secretary of Human Rights of the Humanities Student Center, Lucas Cuenca, endorsed the action with a loaded ideological speech: "While Benjamin Netanyahu is booed at the UN and human rights organizations, including Israeli ones, denounce a regime of apartheid and genocide, the student movement can't remain silent. Today, silence is complicity."

In response to the act, Universitarios de la Libertad Avanza (ULLA) issued a forceful statement condemning the actions of the left. "Only the national flag can fly at our university," they stated, demanding that the rectorate immediately apply disciplinary sanctions. They also emphasized that acts of this magnitude not only damage the institutional prestige of UNS but also undermine the identity of all Argentines.

The statement concluded with a political call: "Let's stop these embarrassments at the ballot box," making it clear that the response must be both academic and electoral in the face of the excesses of the radicalized left.

The controversy arises while the country is still debating the antisemitic chants sung by high school students on a graduation trip in Canning, where the reprehensible chorus "Today we burn Jews" was heard. The incident was reported to the courts by the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona.

In this context, the appearance of Palestinian symbols in Argentine public universities reveals the spread of a climate of hostility against Israel and the Jewish community, driven by left-wing groups under the pretext of "solidarity" with Gaza.

The scandal also had a new chapter during last Friday's graduation ceremony. Clara Aldea, who earned a degree in Philosophy with a GPA of 9.88 —the highest of the ceremony—, received her diploma from Dean Diego Poggiese while also displaying a Palestinian flag. Aldea is an activist in the same Tesis XI group, confirming that the action was not an isolated incident but part of a coordinated campaign.
